Kaffarah
An expiation required when a Muslim deliberately breaks an oath or violates certain Islamic obligations. It involves feeding 60 people in need.
Shariah-compliant. Tax-deductible. 100% to eligible recipients.
What It Is
Kaffarah is a mandatory expiation for deliberately breaking a fast during Ramadan without valid reason, or breaking a solemn oath. It requires feeding 60 people in need - a fixed obligation that serves as both spiritual correction and practical aid.
Who It Applies To
Any Muslim who has deliberately broken a fast during Ramadan without valid reason, or broken a solemn oath. It does not apply to unintentional breaks or those with legitimate excuses.
When It Is Required
Immediately upon recognizing the violation. Kaffarah should not be delayed once the obligation is known.
Spiritual Correction Through Action
“Allah will not impose blame upon you for what is meaningless in your oaths, but He will impose blame upon you for [breaking] what you intended of oaths. So its expiation is the feeding of ten needy people.”
Quran 5:89
For deliberately breaking a Ramadan fast, the Quran prescribes a more serious expiation:
“And those who pronounce zihar from their wives and then [wish to] go back on what they said - then [there must be] the freeing of a slave before they touch one another... And he who does not find [a slave] - then a fast for two months consecutively... And he who is unable - then the feeding of sixty poor persons.”
Quran 58:3-4
Kaffarah serves as both spiritual correction and practical aid. Your repentance directly feeds those in need.
